orange lounge

notes super lively and lots of fun! the drums were such a great time and i liked the vocals.

notos

notes i heart the four seasons albums ^_^ this one is no exception! notos has such a distinct identity while still leading into its sister albums... i love the recurring sounds (for lack of better word).

fav tracks:

  1. torches (!!!)
  2. notos (!!!!!)

in filth your mystery is kingdom / far smile peasant in yellow music

notes mystical and folksy and kind of scary at times... when i listen to this album, i feel like i'm almost floating away. a lovely chance find.

fav tracks:

  1. even god gets stuck in devotion ft. austyn wohlers
  2. a car with no lights on
  3. why i remember (each day of summer)
  4. in filth your mystery is kingdom

suffer fruit demos

notes lovelovelove the vocals in "take your medicine", especially with the urgent drums in the background. incredible stuff.

fav tracks:

  1. take your medicine
  2. a car with no lights on
  3. dogs and friends
  4. cement

the land is inhospitable and so are we

notes one of my favourite mitski albums. it has this really lonely, sad quality about it that makes me feel like the last person on earth. big, empty spaces, towering ceilings, black skies. snow everywhere. so gorgeous.

fav tracks:

  1. buffalo replaced
  2. heaven
  3. when memories snow (!!!!!!!!!)
  4. the frost
  5. i'm your man

choke enough

notes put on because of the lovely cover. pleasantly surprised! i'm picky about electronic music but this album felt really meandering and thoughtful and honestly quite peaceful? very floaty, like something you can't quite lay your hands on. fantastic vibes.

fav tracks:

  1. thank you for recording
  2. family and friends
  3. ict
  4. plague dogs

living while dying

notes this album sounds like what i imagine living in a 2000s high school coming-of-age movie would feel like. it has this worn down, grungey quality to it, while sounding clean at the same time. like standing under a streetlamp at twilight. sticky summer night.

fav tracks:

  1. cotton mouth
  2. do over
  3. do you hate me?
  4. gears
  5. guts

minewest emo

notes really great time, i loved it!

kin

notes neat ambiance. often felt the sounds were trying to tell me something. i loved the urgency to the final track, especially given its lengthy runtime. the accelerating, almost horn-like noises added such an incredible touch.

february

  1. entomongaku - chypho
  2. love deluxe - sade
  3. little dark age - mgmt
  4. essex honey - blood orange
  5. under tangled silence - djrum

  6. magic, alive! - mckinley dixon
  7. boreas - the oh hellos

entomongaku

notes not particularly remarkable but it was nice to have on in the background. very light and playful.

love deluxe

notes really nice, and also, just very cool! i liked how cohesive this album was and how well it blended together. i wasn't paying attention to tracks since i had it on in the background, but i liked it! sade has a lovey voice.

little dark age

notes not completely my thing, but a fun change of pace. i liked the instrumentation in some tracks a lot.

fav tracks:

  1. little dark age
  2. when you die
  3. days that got away

essex honey

notes a very *cool* album. it flows into itself; listening, i kept getting this mental image of the tracks swallowing each other. there is one standout, and it stands out by miles because of the drop that happens midway through! beyond incredible. i keep rewinding it at 2:30-2:40. i really am thinking clean...

fav tracks:

  1. thinking clean (!!!!!!!)
  2. somewhere in-between

under tangled silence

notes progresses in a neat way, and i love how it phases between electronic and 'classical' components. feels super fresh in the literal sense—like observing something new and nascent—but formed at the same time.

fav tracks:

  1. a tune for us
  2. l'ancienne
  3. three foxes chasing each other
  4. let me

magic, alive!

notes with a title like that, i was basically destined to listen to this album. i found it really lively and maximalist—the jazz instrumentals add so much to the rhymes in how they contrast and complement each other.

fav tracks:

  1. sugar water
  2. crooked stick
  3. run, run, run pt. ii
  4. listen gentle

boreas

notes one of my favourite albums ever, and also a total comfort-listen. the oh hellos make me feel so safe and warm and happy... i really can't fully express it. i love the whole ep, but there's one song in particular i listen to ad nauseum; i think it qualifies as my ultimate favourite song ever ever ever. that song is...

fav track:

  1. rose (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

fav tracks:

  1. a wild river to take you home (regular fairygorians will recognize this)
  2. night in a mossy hut

laini tani

notes bandcamp describes this abulm as being "a heady, exhilarating rush of excess, evoking a sultry haze of balmy nights that stretch effortlessly into dawn while clubs continue unphased." nothing i say can capture what this album feels like better than that — a series of vignettes, glimpses caught lazily out of the corner of one's eye.
